A five-minute morning ritual to upgrade your day!

It’s 9:00am on a Monday, Maya is napping and I’m enjoying my coffee while soaking up this beautiful morning sun. I’ve just sat down to write down my gratitude list and one of the first things that came up for me was my morning routine. I’ve been mentioning my morning routine quite a lot lately, because truthfully since Maya was born it has become more important than ever. Whether it’s 15 min or 2 hours it’s my 'oxygen mask'. How do you like to start your day? For most people mornings look like this: alarm goes off, snooze, second snooze, wake up, screen scrolling in bed (news, social media, emails…), get ready for work, coffee while reading the news or in the car and maybe traffic to add on some stress. Starting your day like this triggers your nervous system to go into stress mode, getting you ready for the rat race of the day. The morning is one of the most sacred parts of your day. How you start your morning sets up the tone for the rest of your day. Starting your morning tuning in and taking deep care of yourself is like an insurance policy for your day. Making an effort to fill up your cup first keeps you grounded, focused, energetic and intentional so you are more likely to make better decisions and stay calm with whatever the day throws at you. You don’t have to be a morning person to have a morning ritual. A simple intentional ritual such us my morning check-ins will do magic to the way your day unfolds.

While still in bed or with your morning cuppa ask yourself these 5 questions: 1. How do I feel? 2. How do I want to feel? (Some examples - Peaceful? Vibrant? Relaxed? Nourished? Focused? Inspired? Productive? Joyful? Nurtured? Wholesome?) 3. What do I really need? 4. What is my body, mind, heart and soul craving? 5. What is one thing I can do to make me feel the way I want to feel today?

Your attention determines the way you experience life. Now that you know how you want to feel + what you need to do to feel this way, set an intention for the day to help you stay focused on what matters to you. This week I want to invite you to experiment with making your mornings more intentional starting with as little as this 5 minute ritual. Rather than waking up just in the nick of time to get to work and rushing out the door, spend some time making your morning fabulous! As always, let me know how it goes for you - I'd love to hear from you! Lots of love, Naama
